Folklore Candle Company grew out of my love for stories...
... And of course, candles. The 'Proustian Phenomenon' suggests that scents, more than anything else, help us to connect to past memories and feelings. For me, scent, memory, and mood, are all intensely connected. I've been immersed in countless evocative tales, filled with desperate curiosity to know what different fictional settings and characters would smell like.
How would I feel curled up in the Gryffindor common room (just kidding, I'm irrefutably a Ravenclaw)? What would it smell like to walk in Freya's hall, or hide illicitly in the Retiring Room of Jordan College? What is the smell of magick?
For me, crafting candles is about bringing to life the moods that help immerse us in stories— both fictional, and in our real lives. It's about capturing the whisper of autumn leaves, the crackle of fire, the feeling of moonlight on a cool late summer night. We can't ever be in these fictional places, but I can hope to evoke a little of their magic in a tiny black jar.
Evocative experiences, hand-poured candles.
When I decided to begin exploring candles, I knew I wanted to create something exceptional. A candle not only made with the finest ingredients, but something beautiful that would last beyond its life as a disposable candle and become a part of someone's home in a new way.
Which is why our candles are rigorously tested, hand-poured in small batches with the finest coconut-soy wax, phthalate-free fragrances, and a crackling wood wick. All our fragrances are vegan and cruelty-free, and the jars are reusable (coconut-soy wax washes out with just warm water and soap).
